As well as this, he became part of the Ipswich Groups’ Headquarters team and here he specialized as the base radio operator, and continued in this task until he lost his voice.

DORIS BROWN
Aged 61

SES Service 1986 - 2000

Doris joined Ipswich SES in February 1986 and except for a few years that she spent at the Redcliffe Unit, she has been a member here ever since.

Doris trained in every field of SES, and specialised in several. For several years she ran the kitchen and ensured that the Ipswich HQ was keep clean and the floors polished. All of this was done with a smile and very rarely a grumble. She was the secretary of the Ipswich Support Group for many years, and could always be depended on to assist at all fund raising activities - not only at Ipswich but at Marburg as well. Her last act was to work at the Ipswich show for three days selling lucky tickets.

Doris was one of the Unit Welfare Crew, and worked her little butt off at all our Unit and Cadet Camps.

We will miss Done in all areas, but camps will be so different with out her cheery "How are you Mate?" at the crack of dawn - and always with a hot cuppa and her great smile.

Done is survived by a son, two daughters, four grandchildren, a sister and her mother.

PETER COOK

SES Service 1984 - 1994

Peter was born in 1949 and attended school at Milton and Petrie Terrace. He started his working life as a butcher's apprentice but after two years left to join the Brisbane City Council as a rat catcher, working with fox terriers. He worked in this position for more than twenty years until ill health forced him into early retirement.

Peter joined SES in December 1984 and trained and worked in the HQ wing specialising in the communication area where he was ever willing to share his knowledge with new recruits.

During activations Peter could be found in his favourite position behind the radio microphone controlling the messages to and from the field.

Peter chaired the Ipswich Support Group and worked tirelessly with the fund raising committee till failing health caused him to make the decision not to stand for re-election.
